September 6, 2025Punjabi actor and comedian Jaswinder Bhalla passed away on August 22, his close friend Bal Mukand Sharma confirmed.

According to BBC’s Navjot Kaur, Sharma revealed that Jaswinder Bhalla suffered a brain stroke on Wednesday evening and was immediately admitted to Fortis Hospital, Mohali.
Doctors stated that there was severe bleeding, and despite ongoing treatment, he breathed his last at 4 a.m. on Friday.
Jaswinder Bhalla was a renowned name in the Punjabi film industry, widely loved for his iconic character ‘Chacha Chatar Singh’.
‘The Bhalla-Balle Duo Has Broken Apart’

Expressing grief, his friend Bal Mukand Sharma said, “Today, the Bhalla-Balle duo has broken apart. We have been together since 1977—studying, working, and performing side by side. His passing is a huge personal loss for me and an irreparable loss for Punjabi cinema.”
The duo was especially famous for their comedy series ‘Chankata’, which received immense love from audiences.
Currently, Bal Mukand Sharma is serving as the Chairman of Punjab’s State Food Commission.

Actors, singers, and public figures across various fields have expressed deep sorrow at Jaswinder Bhalla’s demise.
Veteran Punjabi actress Nirmal Rishi said, “Jaswinder was not only a great actor but also a wonderful human being. On sets, he never made anyone feel his seniority or fame. The industry may find another actor, but it will never find another human being like him. His passing is a personal loss to all of us artists.”
Actor Binnu Dhillon shared an emotional post on Instagram:
“Today I have lost not just a legendary actor but also a dear friend, a brother, and a guide. My on-screen father has left us forever. Jaswinder Bhalla Ji didn’t just make us laugh—he taught us to face life’s realities with a smile. His cheerful laughter, warm scoldings, and precious words on set will forever stay in my heart. Today, laughter has turned into tears, but Bhalla Sahib’s memories will never fade away. May Waheguru grant him eternal peace and give us strength to bear this great loss.”

Punjabi singer and actor Gippy Grewal, shocked by the news, wrote:
“It’s hard to believe. I am in deep shock. In the entire industry, he was like a father figure, an advisor, and an immensely talented actor. He created unforgettable memories and treated us like family. This is the worst news ever. May his soul rest in peace. His legacy will live forever through his work, and his influence on our lives will never be forgotten. I will always cherish the memories and lessons he gave me. You will always remain in my heart, Jaswinder Bhaaji.”
Actress Neeru Bajwa also expressed her condolences, writing:
“Extremely saddened to hear this tragic news. Bhalla Saab was deeply respected, and his contributions will always be remembered with great honor. May God grant him peace, and my heartfelt condolences to his family.”
